France: a day of anti-CPE protest begins.
March 18th 2006 Posted to News
full story PARIS (Reuters) - While the government wavers between firmness and conciliation, thousands of demonstrators are taking to the streets this Saturday in France with the aim of forcing prime minister Domenique de Villepin to back down over the first employment contract (CPE). The trade unions, who joined the student movements and high-school pupils, hope to mobilize nearly one and a half million people, a greater number than for the previous demonstrations of February 7 and March 7.
Approximately 160 marches are planned in France, with regional demonstrations in the principal cities for the third national day of demonstrations in six weeks. The Parisian demonstration was due to begin in the early afternoon at Denfert-Rochereau and continue to the place de la Nation. But thousands of demonstrators, many from several provincial towns, like Lyon and Toulouse arrived this morning and have already taken to the streets, with their slogan “All together”, particularly visible.
Friday, Jacques Chirac expressed a wish that a dialogue could open “as quickly as possible” after two months of conflict. But with a series of surveys showing the support of a majority of the French, the opponents of the CPE are demanding the withdrawal of the legislation before any negotiations. The show of force on Thursday (250.000 demonstrators according to authorities’, double according to UNEF), did not make Domenique de Villepin back down.
VILLEPIN READY TO MAKE A GESTURE?
Though the withdrawal of the CPE is not being discussed, the government is working hard to find a way out of this crisis and the extent of the day of Saturday could prove to be crucial in forming their judgement of how to do so. The Presidents of universities called for suspension of the CPE on Friday evening, before the beginning of negotiations on the training and employment of young people.
The Prime Minister seems “reflecting at the moment” on the appropriateness of a phase such consultations, declared Yannick Vallée, first vice-president of the Conference of the University Presidents (CPU), at the end of a meeting in Matignon.
At the same time, Domenica de Villepin defended the “freedom to study” whilst many university campuses are still blockaded by students. On the part of the trade unions, Bernard Thibault held up the threat of a strike day across France if the government did not withdraw the CPE. “If he forces us, it will be necessary to discuss stops of work across the whole of the country for a day. This is of course still hypothetical”, declared the secretary-general of the CGT.
“We cannot allow dismissal without reason to be established in France, that does not exist in any other European country”, he affirmed. If they are not heard, the trade unions (CGT, CFDT, FO, CFTC, Cfe-cgc, Unsa, Solidaires, FSU), students and secondary-school pupils (Unef, Fidl, UNL) intend “to pass at the higher speed”. They are to take stock on Saturday evening of the potential “continuations” of their anti-CPE actions.

Looks like a good day.
PARL was up $1.30, while GEMS held its own with a .02 gain. The VTP scores again.
I'm keeping an eye on SVL, and may consider a possible buy later. I made some good money on it about a month ago.
GEHL looks good. Too bad I didn't get in when Lye did.

I'm just so sick. Today I was too busy to watch any action and got creamed on RWC, GNBT and BEL. I'm so disgusted I can't stand it!!!!!
Is there anyone out there who can offer me a blasted explanation expecially for that ***$&#(@)@ RWC. (Webs, does Bruce just hold these things as they tank and tank and tank????)
I read that there was an erroneous article basically smearing GNBT on Smart Money on Friday. The company has categorically denied the statements one by one but still it's in the dumper. How can the reporters get away with this? Isn't this America????? Land of justice????? It's just not nice!
PMO!!!!!

What's wrong with BEL? Let's see: it just doubled from $2.50 to $5. Today was the first real profittaking hit it has endured since it moved from $2.50. I'd say that is merely normal price action. Target remains at $10.50. And then you have to realize that there are an awful lot of roof rats trapped upstairs. They have been holding the bag a long, long time, and today was a great opportunity to get out. SO they got out. BEL had 1.5 times the normal volume. And by the way, those topping tails show you that those rats upstairs want out, and it will be a painful move up until those rats get out. It just has to be this way with all that overhead resistance.

RWC and NOshadylady
NOshadylady:
RWC--
you are shorting this one, right? It has a bearish $5 target. It has fallen beneath support with a lower low, and a lower high, i.e., it is in an official downtrend. If it breaks below $8.5 you do not want to be holding it, because $5 looks a sure bet with that descending triangle formation. Today was a gap down, on nearly 2x volume (okay, if you insist upon an exact number, it was 1.632 times the normal volume). That's bearish. The good news is that she is sitting dead on support. And if it drops below this $9 number then . . . oh, you know. But this is either the perfect entry or it is just a stopping off place before it dumps some more. Every support entry is that way.Last edited by New-born baby; 03-27-2006, 11:04 PM.

GNBT and NOshadylady
GNBT had a bearish engulfing candle last Wednesday that says "reversal begins here." That was probably an exhaustion selloff. Huge volume; long red candle from $3.15 to $5--that's a huge percentage move in a penny stock (okay, I'll be exact: 58.7%). That's an incredibly bearish number. Today she gapped down again--I see a $2 target. (Bear flagpole of $1.85 subtracted from the bear flag of $3.85=$2).
I am not trying to discourage you, but that is what I think the chart says.
