  • Ameritrade & IB

    New_Born,

I called the Ameritrade customer service this morning and the lady confirmed that they route the Cans pink sheet trade order to TSX and the TSX will convert the dollar to CD at that time.

But I still think about open another account in IB since I saw there is post saying they have more choices, i.e. bracket orders.

    Have a good day!

    • Greetings to all,

NBB I see your disdain for the US traded canroys,I have a different take on them.As you know I trade them to beat the dist. with minimum cost possible.

With Scottrade charging $14.00 round trip, doubling or tripling the dist amount is fairly easy.PWI,PVX,and ERF all trade over 500k a day, which is what I look for lately, since sometimes a 1k block on the low volume stuff gets carved up,or not traded at all.

I havent traded pink sheet canroys yet,but I think they are broker assisted? What is the comission on those?

I have a dispositon for being in cash as much as possible, and look to work those post dist swings, and get out.Look at PWI and PVX today.Look for another dip below 24 on PWI in the Am,and 9.70 on PVX.They should return to previous levels shortly.

PGH is headed south, since B shares are being converted to A shares, which will equalize the price difference.Should bottom around 18.50 IMO.

      cordially Tom

        Paramount Energy Trust

        Investors:

Today is 15 April. PMT.UN Paramount Energy Trust is an excellent buy. Pays .22 per share divy, and the both the share price and the exchange rate are depressed today. PMT has stated that the .22 dividend is safe for the next three years. Here's an opportunity to pick some up for good potential gains.

Yes, YaoYao, and it is nice. I have daytraded them, and I have bought and held some, too. It is as easy as buying/selling on the NYSE via Scottrade.

Is it the same symbol as under Scottrade (e.g. AYUN.CA)? I opened an IB account yesterday, and started transfering a couple of my long-term holdings from Scottrade to IB. I couldn't transer AY though.

                No

The symbols are the same as if you were checking price via TSX.COM.

                AY.UN
                PMT.UN
                NVG.UN
                BTE.UN
                AE.UN
                VKR.UN
                AVN.UN
                SHN.UN
                HTE.UN

Also, if you are a buy and hold Can investor, you'll need to set up an account in Canadian dollars. You see, if you buy AY.UN by just clicking a button, they will buy it for you in Canadian dollars. Of course, you funded your account in USD. Therefore, they loan you the CD and charge you interest. What you need to do is set up a currency account (within your account) in CD also.

Here's how to do it: Let's pretend that you have $50k USD, and you want to buy $20K CAD. Simply type in "CAD" on the page where you'd buy/sell stocks, and when the pop-up comes up asking you "Stock, option, CASH", select "Cash." Then you'll automatically have streaming quotes to buy/sell CAD vs USD to fund your account. So select "buy", type in how many CAD you want, and transmit. You are done.

I think today might be a good day to buy AY. I bought some. IB is SOOOO much better than Scottrade. It is the professional traders' brokerage. Congrats to you on the switch.

                    • I got a letter and package from Scottrade regarding AY's merger with StarPoint and Rockyview. The proxy doc is too complicated for me to understand. Scottrade wants to know which action to take regarding the offer. I dont know what exactly the offer is. Could you help me with that? The big drop of AY today mush have a reason that I dont know about.

                      Thanks always.

If you want a lower dividend (12.7%) and to have your company (currently with good management) to be taken over by a pack of wildcat drillers, vote "yes" for the merger. If you want to continue to own the company you already own, vote "no." If you want the reality of the situation, your vote doesn't count, so don't vote at all. If you want to protest the merger, since they are paying the postage, I'd go ahead and express my opinion.

What happened today was the shareholders telling the management that they can go ahead and merge without them.

Reality check: don't sell for a loss. If that is the case, let the divy pull you through. By the way, you will receive $12.44 for every share of AY you own--that's more than the $12.02 current price. It might be a good time to buy . . . watch the share price of SPN.UN. You are supposed to get .67 shares SPN for every share of AY.

                          YAOYAO and ALL AY.UN HOLDERS

                          ALL AY.UN HOLDERS:

AY is being bought out by STARPOINT ENERGY (STN.UN).

STN.UN DOES NOT HAVE THE PROPER PAPERWORK TO ALLOW FOR US STOCKHOLDERS. AY SHARES ARE BEING DUMPED ON THE MARKET, AND YESTERDAY PINK SHEET HOLDERS TOOK A MASSIVE 30% HIT. MY ADVICE: CHECK IT OUT AND GET OUT.

                              Micky,
Yesterday I bought AY on a dip--my usual practice. But today I noticed the bid size was 2.5 million shares. A friend of mine who also owns AY found out today that Starpoint is not going to give US investors the same compensation that they are giving Canadian investors. US investors will not get any Starpoint shares. (You just lost your dividend). You are going to get shares in an exploration company that is highly speculative--and no divy. The asset value of the exploration company is $4.38 Canadian per share: the stock price was $12.60 for AY two days ago. It is a slaughterhouse.

                              How is this for ugly?

I read again the thick document that I received yesterday from Scottrade. We are "INELIGIBLE APF UNITHOLDER", who will not receive StarPOint PAYment units. However, it does state that these units will be delivered to the Depositary and Exchange Agent for sale (in my case, It's scottrade). They have to sale these units within 5 business days after receive them. We will get a check back.

I'm still a bit confused. If I'm a unitholder in Canada, what will I get for my 500 shares of AY? Will all my shares of AY be converted to STN, or I will still have my 500 shares plus some STN units? What role does Rockyview play here? IT's just too complicated.
