Thanks, P. Have you checked out IMCL in premarket this morning? Huge, baby.

And there could be more good news for IMCL coming before the end of the month, and again in June. If things go today as it appears they will, then this is one of those days I was hanging on so long for. But really I believe there are more to come.

The 52-week high is 43.08, which is pretty much the 2-year high as well. Rock 'n' roll!

Naturally there will be some selling pressure, but I think things are generally in favor of the longs a this point.

Rob, congrats on the IMCL move. I wouldn't exactly call this news good though. IMCL basically gets a boost because Amgen's cancer drug isn't working. But not only that, the results showed that the combination of drugs they were testing likely had the effect of killing the patients in the study.

I do hope they succeed and bring a new colorectal cancer drug to market, though. My mother has colon cancer. Best of luck to IMCL, and you, Rob!

Don't misundertake me, Jiesen. It isn't good news for cancer patients; it is, however, good news for ImClone and for those who are long IMCL stock, as I am. My long position has been beaten down for a long time due to the perceived threat from panitumumab coming to market and to the news reports that mislead people by saying in so many words: "Panitumumab is just as good as cetuximab but with bi-weekly dosing and fewer side effects," when the actual numbers from the available studies really didn't support the claim. And that was one of the things I've been complaining about: "irrational exuberance" for a competitive product I've always thought to be inferior that is sucking the lifeblood out of my long-term investment.

You have my sincerest sympathy with regard to your mother's illness. I don't know to what stage your mother's cancer has progressed, but I wish the most positive outcome for her. I watched my mother die of bladder cancer 8 years ago after it aggressively metasticized to bones in various parts of her body. It's a horribly helpless feeling to see a loved one in such a condition.

Yes, I saw it. I watched it happening in real time as trading was halted for a few minutes yesterday.

This stock is still going higher by the summer on the release of trial data the first week of June at the ASCO conference. But this setback is going to weigh on it for a little while. So I sold all my shares yesterday shortly after trading resumed and will wait to see what happens in the short term. In the meantime, I put in a ridiculously low buy limit order on some Aug. 40 calls. I don't expect it to get filled, but one never knows.

I made 19.58% on that particular long position in a little more than a year's time. If you take all the times I've been in and out of IMCL over the last several years, however, I'm still in the red.

                  Back Into IMCL

I reopened my IMCL long position for a buck and 32 cents higher than where I sold it a few days ago.

This baby's gonna run sometime between now and mid June, maybe as much as 25-30%. (Mark my words on that and throw them right back in my face if it doesn't happen.) The effect of the bad news release earlier this week was a lot less damaging than I expected, so I lost a little money on the deal. That's life.

investing in biotechs can be pretty frustrating, esp. with imclone. Put these on your watch list and buy on weakness, then dump imcl and never look back.

What I don't understand is Rob's attachment to Imclone. Rob, what is it that you see there that is making you keep your money in it. Don't you think that the money could be served better somewhere else?

In hindsight I bought too early originally. Obviously if I knew it was going to take this long for this one to take off I'd have put my investment dollars elsewhere. This is an underdog story, and I've been following it closely for a long time. I don't want to miss it when the run happens. They say patience is a virtue, so I'm trying to be patient.

Thanks, Ski. Almost 3% gain today at the moment. I'll take it! As the Beatle lyric says, it's been a "long and winding road," and I expect a few more potholes, but I do try to stay focused on the long term.

                                Blacksburg Shooting

Our cozy, quiet, little SW Virginia community is exploding onto the national news scene today as at least 22 people, including one gunamn, are dead in an apparent random shooting incident on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. Actually there were two separate shootings about 2 hrs. apart, one at a dorm and the other in Norris Hall, an engineering building.

I never went to school there, but my father did. I installed some custom woodwork there probably 10 years ago. It's a beautiful campus.

Too bad none of the students were carrying firearms. They could have saved some innocent lives.
