The markets have not been kind to many stocks, and trying to make money has been difficult. Next week is another game , and I feel the following 10 picks should perform well over the course of one week!
According to the post above the Gold Spike Indicator should kick in on the 10th and Gold should spike up. Will it work? ......who knows? , but gold is a good investment for the long run.

1. APOL SHORT APOL is one of the for profit schools that is being investigated by the FEDS and bad press is causing it to fall. Some of these schools are nothing more than a piggy bank for some sharks duping primarily low income students to enroll and take huge loans . Unfortunately many flunk out and leave huge debts behind.

1. APOL SHORT Private educational diploma mill taking it on the chin because of abuses in the field. Imagine what a Doctorate from The Apollo group is worth? I guess about what that toilet tissue ya wipe your As* with is worth.
2. EFJI LONG Wireless communications and infrastructure work
3. HGRD LONG Healthcare
4. GSS LONG Small Gold miner with sales growth of 55% and icome growth of 441% over the past 12 months .........LOOKIN' GOOD!
5. HSII SHORT Executive Search And Leadership Consultation ......Gezzz the chart is dropping faster than a hangman's victim plummeting from the gallows. You could say Heidrick and Struggles is struggling!
6. IMMU LONG Pharma stock that MAy be pulling out of a dive?
7. LINC SHORT Another ...Ahem bastion of higher learning.
8. PPCO LONG Pharma that shot up and appears to be basing , waiting for blast off! Now GRAB the digitalis and hang onto your hats ......Penwest , over the past 12 months had an increase in sales growth of more that 178% , and , GET THIS, an income growth of a blistering 502% over the same 12 month period. Vector Vest says this $4.97 stock is UNDERVALUED , and should be worth $8.90 per share and is given a BUY rating. P/E of 4.60 compared to the average for this group of 46.17. What the hell are ya waiting for ......BUY this stock !

PPCO also caught my eye until I saw that it's being bought out by ENDO for 5.00/share. PPCO shareholders are probably going to sue, but this one may be dead in the water for the time being.

------SPRD is a good one. I've been watching it for months and bought 1000 shares awhile back and sold for a nice gain. May buy again. SPRD shows great resiliency almost always recovering quickly from minor corrections.

------I'd like to suggest BFR as a substitute for PPCO. Looks like a low priced gem to me. Check it out.

Golden Dozen For 8/17/10

Stock Futures , gold and oil are up, so only longs for today. Yesterday's 3 Shorts had 2 losers and one win for a slight overall loss. Today with futures up , trying to short is like looking down the barrell of a loaded gun.
Gold closed yesterday at its highest close in 6 weeks . Is the Gold Spike Indicator which was supposed to signal a spike in Gold on or about August 10th working? Only time will tell for sure . China is backing off throwing money at US paper .........and can ya blame them , and they are buying more gold.
Goldman Sachs also put GOLD on a buy list several days ago!

8. PWER LONG Power converters and other devices. Story on the news this AM radio says China is pouring billions into high voltage projects.

10 for 8/18/10

Stock futures are languishing and only GOD knows how the markets will close today . I will hedge our bets by throwing 3 SHORTS into the mix. Education for profit "BASTIONS" of higher learning according to various news stories have less than a stellar performance ,and honestly some appear to be just piggy banks for the principals involved.
80 % of the revenue for these for-profit schools comes from federal student loans which are indirectly financed by you and me the taxpayers!
The default rate for these loans is rising exponentially . Remember how can you pay , if you have no job.?
Being kind let me say a degree from some of these institutions, is worth less than the toilet paer ya have hanging in the crapper!
50% of the students in these institutions drop out , and NEVER pay back their loans.
Another interesting fact , some of the students are actually recruited from homeless shelters and gambling casinos LOL!
Once the federal loan checks come in , the institutions don't really give a rat's ass if the students graduate.
Don't feel guilty about shorting these institutions , and in reality you can recoup some of your wasted tax dollars.
