    Selenium The Longevity Booster!

The common wisdom is to take 200 micro grams of selenium daily. This mineral enhances immunity , diminishes the adverse effects of drugs and alcohol, , and also helps to protect against heart disease , and some cancers which include lung, prostate and colorectal.

I am also taking Selenium, at 200 mcg/day. Have been for 10+ years... hopefully it's helping! So far no cancer or heart disease here. This was also supposed to prevent colds, however, I still pretty regularly catch a cold when it goes around.

          Can you avoid prostate cancer?

Follow at least 5 of the following 6 life changes and the University Of California research scientists found that you have a 39% LOWER risk of developing lethal prostate cancer than those who adopted only one or none of the following.

          1. Eat more tomatoes

          2. Eat Fatty Fish

          3. Eat less processed foods

          4. DON'T SMOKE

          5. Exercise

          6. Have a BMI ( BODY MASS INDEX) less than 30 To Help You Calculate BMI Click Here http://www.aicr.org/reduce-your-canc...FYiY4AodA3sAWg

A MIND IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE!

AS one gets older he can take certain nutrients to perhaps nourish the brain. Sometimes just simple exercise helps. A 7 year study of 2,000 people over the age of 65 found that those who engaged in high levels of reading, physical exercise or just talking with friends reduced their risk of Alzheimer's by 38%
One of the nutrients which may help with brain issues is Phosphatidylserine . This nutrient was used in tests with both healthy and cognitively impared adults, and has been shown to consistently improve memory and attention without causing serious side effects. CAUTION since it does slow blood clotting do not use with blood thinner medications. Folks ALWAYS check with your doctor before taking any supplement! At least 500 mg per day is recommended .

I use this company to buy some of my supplements and their prices are good. Here is what I myself will be ordering , but please do your own research because I am NOT endorsing this company or any others! http://www.nutritionexpress.com/lind...s.aspx#reviews

P7, watch out for how many supplements you take, and which ones, please. Kidney stones (especially the oxalate ones) can and do result! Please check with a nutritionist as to any risk you might be incurring. This happened to a good friend of mine who was a supplement "fanatic." I know you're NOT a fanatic, but be safe, please.

River thanx for your advice .......yes I do research and some of the nutrients have been approved by my cardiologist, but one never knows when new research may show the nutrient could be harmful. I guess all in moderation. Have a beautiful day ! P7

Greek Yogurt can help with High Blood Pressure Excellent Article but don't buy the Mystery Product which is Marine D3 highlighted in the video clip. Many on AMAZON say it is B.S. I use Lifetime Plain Probiotics for my yogurt drink. Is has perhaps the smoothest taste out there! It can be found in your local super market dairy case!

Here is the B,P. Link http://blueheronhealthnews.com/site/...d-pressure-31/

                    Is Your Microwave oven safe?

Take your Cell Phone and place it into your microwave oven , (OBAMA PHONE USERS PLEASE DO NO TURN THE OVEN ON !) Call from an outside phone , and if you hear a ring you know that your phone call from the OUTSIDE has transmitted through which indicates that your oven is probably leaking microwaves. UNFORTUNATELY my oven failed. I will have to check this out down at an appliance store to see if a brand new microwave would test safe!
Folks test this yourselves and let me know your results!

                          ALZHEIMERS AND ROSEMARY!

Rosemary contains 5 compounds that seem to prevent the breakdown of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that's deficient in patients with Alzheimers. Dr James A. Duke author of numerous books believes that eating Rosemary can reduce one's risk of developing Alzheimer's. Rosemary can be added to all sorts of recipes , including fish and chicken. A company called Botanic Choice sells both Tinctures of Rosemary that can be added to drinks , and capsules of Rosemary both at very reasonable prices!

Food for the brain is important at any age , and especially important as we reach our senior years. These 9 foods garnered from the internet may well help you achieve a healthy brain.

Eat More of These 9 Foods for Brainpower

                              1. Curry

Curry contains turmeric, a spice that in turn contains the anti-inflammatory antioxidant curcumin. Curcumin is capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier, which is one reason why it holds promise as a neuroprotective agent in a wide range of neurological disorders.

Research has shown that curcumin may help inhibit the accumulation of destructive beta amyloids in the brain of Alzheimer's patients, as well as break up existing plaques.1 Curcumin has even been shown to boost memory and stimulate the production of new brain cells, a process known as neurogenesis.

A word to the wise… some curry powders may contain very little curcumin compared to straight turmeric powder, so choose the latter for the best health benefits.

                              2. Celery

Celery is a rich source of luteolin, a plant compounds that may calm inflammation in your brain, which is a primary cause of neurodegeneration. Luteolin has also been linked with lower rates of age-related memory loss in mice.2 In addition to celery, peppers and carrots are also good sources of luteolin.

                              3. Broccoli and Cauliflower

Broccoli and cauliflower are good sources of choline, a B vitamin known for its role in brain development. Choline intake during pregnancy "super-charged" the brain activity of animals in utero, indicating that it may boost cognitive function, improve learning and memory,

It may even diminish age-related memory decline and your brain's vulnerability to toxins during childhood, as well as conferring protection later in life.3 Eggs and meat are among the best food sources of choline.

                              4. Walnuts

Walnuts are good sources of plant-based omega-3 fats, natural phytosterols and antioxidants, and have been shown to reverse brain aging in older rats. DHA, in particular, is a type of omega-3 fat that’s been found to boost brain function and even promote brain healing, although it’s more plentiful in animal-based omega-3 sources, like krill, as opposed to walnuts.

                              5. Crab

One serving of crab contains more than your entire daily requirement of phenylalanine, an amino acid that helps make the neurotransmitter dopamine, brain-stimulating adrenaline and noradrenaline and thyroid hormone, and may help fight Parkinson’s disease. Crab is also an excellent source of brain-boosting vitamin B12.

                              6. Garbanzo Beans (Chickpeas)

Garbanzo beans are one of the best food sources of magnesium (aside from kelp and green leafy vegetables). Magnesium benefits brain cell receptors to speed the transmission of messages, while also relaxing blood vessels, which allows more blood flow to the brain.

                              7. Red Meat

Red meat like grass-fed beef is an excellent source of vitamin B12, which is vital for healthy brain function. People with high levels of markers for vitamin B12 deficiency are more likely to score lower on cognitive tests, as well as have a smaller total brain volume, which suggests a lack of the vitamin may lead to brain shrinkage.4

                              8. Blueberries

The antioxidants and other phytochemicals in blueberries have been linked to improvements in learning, thinking and memory, along with reductions in neurodegenerative oxidative stress. They’re also relatively low in fructose compared to other fruits, making them one of the healthier fruits available.

                              9. Healthy Fats

Beneficial health-promoting fats that your body—and your brain in particular—needs for optimal function include organic butter from raw milk, clarified butter called organic grass fed raw butter, olives, organic virgin olive oil and coconut oil, nuts like pecans and macadamia, free-range eggs, wild Alaskan salmon, and avocado, for example.
