Be careful out there, friends. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/22/us...it_th_20131222. A (former) friend of mine was nuts about supplements and ended up in excruciating pain due to kidney stones. But he was crazy anyway. So it goes.

My dad had a kidney stone ......and he had told me, it was the worst pain he had in his entire life. They say drinking a few glasses of water per day ......and going easy on the calcium supplements may help. I don't take any calcium , and I have a plastic water bottle in my car at all times , and I also drink water while I am walking!
My dad had gone to a chiropractor for Sciatic Pain , and the good Dr had told him supplements were ineffective and were merely urinated out of your body.
MY dad had taken supplements for may years and lived until 98!! The Chiropractor who had treated my dad was playing Santa Claus at an elementary school, and while sitting in a chair talking to the children.......... all of a sudden he fell back, ass over tea kettle and dropped dead right on the spot. DEAD in his early fifties.
So you could say my dad who had taken the supplements probably had the better idea! LOL

The formation of kidney stones may be more related to genetics than diet, but a bad diet can make things worse. My son in law has been plagued by kidney stones since his teens. He also drinks a lot of Mountain Dew. Many other male relatives of his have had the same problem though not at such an early age.

Diet and Exercise are required for good health . Walking and Hiking are excellent. For those in great shape this hike may be just what the doctor ordered! http://www.viralnova.com/dangerous-trail-huashan/ Folks if your wife or girl friend suggests you take this hike.......check to see if any large Life insurance policies were taken out lately naming the girlfriend or wife as beneficiary LOL

Folks your eyes are extremely important and I highly recommend having them examined by a competent opthalmologist at least twice per year, especially when older. My dad had contracted macular degeneration in his later years and was practically blind when he died. Folks I do take supplements which may help the eyes to remain healthy.
You only need THREE nutrients to ensure sharper vision…
There are only three nutrients with an overwhelming amount of scientific evidence they will improve your vision and protect your eyes for years to come:
The ideal amount
Lutein..................................20 mg
Astaxanthin...........................4 mg
Zeaxanthin............................4 mg
Some compounds have all 3 nutrients within them .......I take each separately and buy them from Costco and Puritans Pride!

and, new to science is this:
Genetic research reveals that zinc supplement formulations used to prevent the progression of AMD are not safe for 15% of patients. Learn more.
a genetic test which will tell you whether you've inherited this problem from your dad or not.
I will be getting this test at some point, too, since MD runs in my family, too. Don't know how much it costs yet, but I imagine it'll be a bit cheaper by the time I need to get it done...
