2024 PotY Contest Standings As of Market Close, Mar 8
Sorry, I almost forgot to post the standings this week. Anyways, though the market has been teetering a little of late, our picks are mostly doing pretty darn good. Molly’s ARM still sits at number one on the leader board followed this week by BillyJoe’s MNKD, which took off like a rocket ship the last two weeks, in 2nd, and then JohnHenry’s FROG in 3rd. Overall, we still have 10 picks in the green with a couple of others on the brink of going green. That’s outstanding work, pickers. The market still looks strong, but it has wobbled a bit as it tries to make new highs so be vigilant with your real world trades.

2024 PotY Contest Standings As of Market Close, April 5
I’m back! Did you miss me? Don’t answer. Sorry about the hiatus, pickers. I just got sidetracked. Anyway, here we are with lots of jostling in the standings. The really good news is that we now have 11 picks in the green, nine of which are beating all three indices. Nice picking, pickers! So here’s the new leaderboard: Molly’s ARM still holds a commanding lead in first place, followed by BillyJoe’s MNKD in second, and JohnHenry’s FROG in third. Personally, I’m a little worried by the market here as it is showing signs of exhaustion, but I’ve been fooled before. We’ll just have to see what the future holds. It ought to be here any second now.

2024 PotY Contest Standings As of Market Close, April 12
Hi all. I’m a day late, but here are the latest standings for our 2024 PotY contest. There has been a change to the leaderboard this week as Antioch’s TSM has jumped up into third place. Molly’s ARM remains firmly planted in first place with BillyJoe’s MNKD in second. Overall, it was a rocky week. It sure looks like the market is headed into a correction. As a result, I started pruning my positions last week, and when the news broke about the world’s latest troubles, I increased my cash position to about 70%. I could be wrong, but I just don’t like the look of the indexes, and I really don’t feel good about the state of the world. I’ll buy my way back in when I think the time’s right. I just hope it’s not at a higher price point than the one at which I exited

2024 PotY Contest Standings As of Market Close, April 19
There was a big shake up this week as the market teetered. We now have a new leaderboard that features BillyJoe’s MNKD in 1st, Molly’s ARM in 2nd, and Massimi’s TMGEF in third. Even two of the indices went negative on the year. Ouch. We’re still mostly in the green, but I have fears that more downside is coming, which is why I now sit at 90% cash in my real world portfolios. I even closed my NVDA position that has delivered in spades for two years. I still have a position in AAPL, but I’m looking hard at that one too. One of the reasons I have held onto AAPL for the long term is because of my belief that the Apple Car, when released, was going to boost their bottom line significantly. Now that they have abandoned the project, I’m disappointed in a big way.
Of course, there are problems with moving in and out of the market. First there is the tedious process of having to close 50-75 positions, which is how many I typically hold once I’m fully invested. Trade Station has a nice “close all positions” feature that can make it easier, but you won’t get the best price that way. Second, any gains on positions held less than a year are taxed using income tax rather than capital gains rates. I just don’t like sitting through major corrections, though I admit timing an exit or entry correctly is difficult, and I’ve screwed up more than a few times. Well just have to see what happens. I guess I can scurry back into the market if things look up sooner rather than later.

Market looking very strong today as the indices broke out of their regression channels to the upside. Maybe this was just a mini correction. Gotta see where things head over the next few days. If the market still has more juice in it, I wanna be in.Comment

First of all, my apologies for a mistake last week. I used the wrong closing price for Molly’s ARM, and as a result, ARM dropped out of first place. It turns out that ARM was rightfully still in first place as it is again this week. Sorry, Molly. There was a little shakeup in the other two positions as JohnHenry’s FROG leaped into 2nd place (see what I did there) and BillyJoe’s MNKD moved into 3rd. It was a crazy week for the market for sure. It sure looked the correction was going to continue after the gap down on Thursday, but instead buyers swooped in almost immediately (including me as I bought lightly). Then the market gapped up on Friday, looking like it wants to resume its upward crawl. I don’t really have a strong feeling, however, as to where the market heads from here. Technically the NASDAQ and the S&P broke out of their downward regression channels, and the DOW is touching its upward boundary. For now I’m holding my new buys, but treating them as short term trades until I get a clearer picture. Need to say, next week is going to be critical. Stay tuned.

2024 PotY Contest Standings As of Market Close, May 3
Another interesting week, mostly sideways until a gap up on Friday let the markets end on an up note. The big surprise this week was Mr. Market’s CLRPF, which made big gains to vault it into first place. Previous, long time leader Molly’s ARM, followed closely behind in 2nd. Billy Joe’s MNKD held its ground in 3rd. It will be interesting to see if the sideways consolidation will continue or if the market decides to make a firm move up or down.

2024 PotY Contest Standings As of Market Close, May 10
It was an up week for all the major indices, but there was no change in our leaderboard. Mr. Market’s CLRPF remains in 1st, followed by Molly’s ARM in second, and BillyJoe’s MNKD in 3rd. The markets look poised to make new highs after relatively modest retracements, although the NASDAQ is looking a little stubborn. On another note, we are in earnings season, and so far it has been a mixed bag although quite a few companies have downgraded their guidance citing strong economic headwinds. Not sure what that’s all about, but this underscores the importance of being in the correct stocks right now, like some of the picks in our contest. As always, we’ll just have to see what happens.
