PGH is on a tear, from last months dip to low 19s,its now near 23,Im still waiting for a dump on that one.

Some of the talk around is that substantial distribution increases are on the way.Last years levels were based upon oil hedged at around 30,now they have been hedged near 50,could be seeing yields rising to mid teens again.

    • New-Born,

I placed a limit order to buy AY.UN this morning. I have a couple of questions:

      1. Are there two factors that will determine if my order will be filled: unit price and exchange rate for CAD and USD?

      2. I called Scottrade to place the order, could I modify the order online at will?

      Thanks.

#1 Yes, both share price and exchange rate affect price, and thus if or if not your order will be filled.

#2. No. You must call Scottrade again to modify the order.

        Best wishes to you!

          • New-Born,

After my order was filled, my position of AY.UN shows $40 less than my purchase amount, and has not changed so far, although the price of AY.UN on tsx.com keeps changing. Is it normal?

            Thanks

              Yes, and here's why.

I assume you have a Scottrade account. Scottrade updates your account Monday night,Tuesday night, Wed night, Thurs night, Friday night. Your account will not be updated until about 3 am. tomorrow morning.

Remember, you do not have streaming quotes on Scottrade. And also remember you have the exchange rate to wrestle with. Today the exchange rate moved against us a little bit because Pres. Bush is speaking of cutting the budget deficit. That will be good for all Americans, but will cause the exchange rate to temporarily move against us.

Just collect a few months' worth of dividends and you will feel much better.

Best to you! And AY's Coal Bed Methane is going to pay off in the coming years. US natural gas production has fallen every year since 1973. We have to buy from Canada, and AY will benefit.

                  YY

If this is too personal, don't answer. But how many shares of AY did you pick up?

Also, the exchange rate on WWW.XE.COM is currently about .796842. It was about .805xxx when you purchased the other day, so you'll be down just a little bit even if AY held even with your buy price. But that .16 CD divy is due Feb 15 (you'll get it Feb 17 or 18 if you Scottrade). And next month, and next month, and next month . . . . a little patience is required. I put my children and several pastor friends into the Cans (AY, AE, PMT, VKR and NVG). They are all quite happy as they have everyone made money.

The Iraq vote was an unqualified success. That's why the press hasn't said too much about it. If it were a failure, then you'd never hear the end of it. But the success in Iraq has made the entire world think more of the USA, and it shows in the exchange rate. The ex-rate is also affected by the oil price. As oil price increases, the USD falls (generally).

                  • I only picked up 500 shares. Before I called Scottrade, I didn;t do research on exchange rate. The broker told me that the rate was 124/100, the price at the time was 11.80. He said that it was about $9.60. I then did a quick calculation using the same number, and it was about $9.52. So I asked him to put in $9.52 as my GTC limit order. It was filled in 10 minutes. It's very hard to figure out gain/loss with two factors involved. I'm glad that I dont need to worry about that since it's a safe play. I still think energy will do well this year.

I might've picked the wrong time to enter FRO. But in the long run, I think I will profit from it. I am thinking about picking up some more. Thanks for bring it to my attention.

My opinion is worth no more than the price you paid for me to give it.

FRO: you'll get some free SFL shares in the deal; I think you are going to be okay. I'm in it too.

AY: You need to check the ex-rate daily on the website I listed for you:
www.xe.com. Become familiar with its ups and downs, because the Scottrade broker is no doubt not very familiar with how things work. AY is a very safe play and a very well run company.

Keep your eyes on VKR.UN. When this company's unit price returns to 6.50 CD, I'd suggest you load up on it. Bright future for it, too.

It is hard not to make money with Canroys. That 16.4% return, plus capital gains, is hard to beat.

                              • New-Born,

This might be a silly question. Could I trade a Canroy in my IRA account? If so, the divident will not return to my account, but to me via a check? Then I will have to pay taxes on the dividents, right?

                                Thanks.
