that's a good example of "do-gooders" doing harm. You won't find one wildlife biologist anywhere worth their salt that thinks feeding wild animals is helping them. Its harming them.

NO arguement here Doug. Add kerry to the list of dumocrats like howard dean. I don't think there was enough damage done to affect the elections but the republicans must be estatic to have someone like kerry to deflect attention away from the mess they're in.

Yes...both sides look stupid on this one ...to me anyway.

I would look for the admin to change strategies in IRAQ after the election...I think they wanted to wait to avoid more criticism before the election...Doug

I had a wild squirrel that would run up on my shoulder for peanuts. I really loved that squirrel, but my ******* neighbor had to shoot him. I haven't liked my neighbor since.

I haven't liked him much either, Webs. Especially after he shot me.

                    • next-to-the last update

since I started the topic here, this is the latest update on the Swenson model.

I went back 10 years and ran it and it sucked (too colorful?). The annual gain is only 7%, including dividends. I compared this to a simple buy and hold which had a gain of around 10.5% including dividends. The strongest performer of the bunch was the reit, up over 14% annually over that period of ten years...the global equity fund was next with a 12.3% annual gain.

The last thing I'll do is try timing a simple buy and hold to say, the bullish % numbers. I'm guessing that will boost the overall return.

Lastly, I am not sure why my return numbers are so different from the advertised numbers from vanguard's, I assumed that the quotes include re-investing of dividends but that may not be correct. The spliced fund has an advertised rate of return of over 11% over the past 10 years....based on the quotes I used from stock charts that return is just under 8%, so something's screwed up. But for comparison's sake, as long as I use the same quote service the comparison's are valid.

Chickened a little. Sold DVY in my trading account to lighten a little to about 33% long and 1/4 of the stuff in my conservative account to take that down to about 75% long.

Louetta...I know you've said that you missed this run since early August...To be honest, I made some on my dt's...But I mostly missed it too...As I look back and reflect...I really don't see why I missed it...Looks so obvious in reflection...But it happens.

Anyway...What is your current take on the markets from now thru year end? I think we are in a pause faze and then we run thru mid January...I personally don't think the election results will have much affect...maybe a day or two???...But I am concerned that Bush will announce a "NEW" strategy in IRAQ after the elections(Actually, I hope he does...But what will be the effect?)...Anyway...Any thoughts???...thx...Doug

I'm confused at this point. There are some indications the economy is weaker than people thought and historically the Fed tightens just a little too much and we slip towards recession so maybe this time too. Interest rates have fallen some and so have oil prices so that might help stocks. Seasonally its a good time for a run up. But if oil prices have been artificially lowered to help Republicans in the election they may go sprinting back up later in the year and that might hurt. So I don't know, I'm about 50% invested mostly in conservative vehicles that won't do much more than the S&P. I usually piggyback on Poormans about this time of year but he's been having a rough go, still underwater for the year. I believe his methodology has changed, maybe not consciously. Per Stock Traders Almanac we should watch MACD on the market averages to look for the beginning of the 6-7 month seasonal strong period so I guess I'll do that for a smidge. I took a little off the table earlier this weak.

Louetta...Do you ever go to the Harvard Biz School Library??? I live near UCLA and IBD donates the BIG weekly Datagraphs book to the Biz library( Costs over $100 grand for a sub)...Only 1x a month though...I used to go there all the time...it has double the data at Dailygraphs...But since Dailygraphs went online I don't go so often...But Mr M said you were the "Queen of IBD" when you first joined us...After getting to know you...Internet-wise...I rather doubt that is an appropriate moniker for you...But anyway...Have you ever checked that out???...They are interesting IMO...Best, Doug(IIC)
