There are other factors, aside from market (read supply/demand) forces.

for example, the additional carrier battle group moving into the region.

Iran has long claimed that it would close the straits of hormuz. OTOH, they've been itching for an old fashioned a$$ whooping since the beruit Marine barracks attack.

Me thinks there is going to be additional puckerage in the region, before things calm down again.

Bush clearly stated as such in his speech. Which is a good thing, those clowns need to quake in their sandals just thinking about bothering us, to ensure peace.

I don't want to condone unnecessary war of any type but I do want them to understand where the power lies. I also want them to understand that you can't go around making idle threats for fear of someone just might take you up on it and stick your foot in your mouth. We seem to have lost that presence and I think it comes from trying to make a point while trying to be politically correct at the same time. It just doesn't work that way. We should either keep our mouth shut, stay out or it, or come down with a vengence when we do decide to act. Swift, decisive, and over and done with. I am also tired of our broadcasting everything we plan to do. I've always felt that silence is the key to creating the mood before the action. All we need is a few good men in Washington. Someone like Colin Powell who will think it thru first, make a plan accordingly, and act with decisiveness in stopping the threat. Simple but it takes some backbone and honesty which there is a big lack of in our top leaders.

This sounds a bit like "walk softly and carry a big stick" to me.

Well if the shoe fits then wear it. That particular Roosevelt was the type of man that we need to see more of but I think that kind of man and politican is long gone. We have a draft dodger leading the country and into war on top of that. He didn't have enough backbone to serve his country then but will now send young American men to their death without a thought. He makes me sick to my stomach. Especially when he says "the American people need to stay the course and stand up for Iraq for their well being and the democratic way of life" when he doesn't have enough backbone to do it himself.

            Patriots win

I'll be honest, the Pats aren't my most fovorite team. But, there is something magical about them. Brady amazes me with his play... 3 int's and he still comes back! That guy is awesome!

I thought the Chargers were going all the way...

Coaching had something to do with it, methinks. I believe Tomlinson had only nine touches in the second half, a waste of the league MVP I wouldst opine. Plus when the Pats went from two to one tight ends in favor of a third wide receiver the Chargers apparently did not adjust in the secondary nor did their ususally effective pass rush do much. Also, Parcells, when he was here, always said you need to play for 60 minutes and I think the Pats do that as well as anyone. As a side, when Faulk crossed the line on the 2 point conversion you could see Merriman just standing there about four yards deep. Can't say he was a factor much.

Hey, that game is already ancient history and I hope their little celebration doesn't mean they think they've already won #4. They have to beat the colts in their house, with deafening noise. Man is it going to be an exciting game, but losing vinatieri may very well come back to haunt the pats....another 3 point win in the final seconds is my guess, but who will get the kick? The pat's new kicker is doing great for a rookie...but I don't think he's got icewater in his veins yet.

The wild card is of course, Belichik. He's the reason the pats are the greatest team ever. Their record of 21 consecutive wins will never be beaten.

                Go Pats!

There isn't a thought in there that I would contend. I could add some regarding Schottenheimer, though the comments would be apparent, and already partly discussed.

I think the celebration was just ball-busting. At least they wait til after the game to do their "talking". The big thing was doing Merriman's dance on the SanDiego emblem, mocking what Merriman has done in front of other teams when San Diego has won. Vinatieri is of course very good but his team has to get him in range in the closing seconds. Brady, et al., were very good at that. Can Manning et al. do that? They don't have as good a track record. Plus the remaining games will be played on good fields. Part of Vinatieri's competence is doing it regardless the conditions. mayhap playing indoors will level the field for Gostkowski. He does seem to have the leg and some cool based on last Sunday. Anyway I feel more confident this week than last.

Years ago before the new stadium was built my Dad had tickets thru his company which has since gone under. I went to a couple of games the first year Parcells was here but I was really too young and they didn't have the enclosed boxes they do now. There were also a lot of drunks and whatnot. That didn't end til maybe the Kraft's 2nd or third year.

I hope LT's little tirade put some humility back in the pats (I read what he said..."you guys are better than that!")...if they get retard cocky, they'll lose outright. But you really can't blame them...they get no respect and they won an absolutely HUGE game, so alot of that was just a spontaneous release of emotion.

We might as well continue this on Lou's thread. Who do you like to win between the Patriots and Colts. Colt's defense looked pretty good last week and stepped up to the task but I still think that Manning is overrated and can't win the big games although last week was a pretty big game. Brady is the kind of guy I want in a tight and close game. Like Lou stated, he plays 60 minutes all out and leaves 110% on the field. The Pats whole team is like that it seems from the coach on down. I like the Pats in a close hard fought game and I give the edge to Brady in the quarterback matchup. He's a proven commodity in these playoff games and knows how to win. They both have some momentum going from winning hard fought close games last week. Pats over Colts by 3 points even though Colts are at home and 3 point favs. I'm taking the 3 points in what looks to be a great game.

I'm usually a Bears fan but they just escaped with a win last week and the Saints are for real. They both showed some heart in their wins last week and this should be a hard fought contest. Brees is a better quarterback, at least this year, than the guy for the Bears. I like the Saints because of Brees, Duece, and Bush. Looks like the Saints have just a little more consistency and ammo going for them. I took 3 points with the Saints earlier this week and now it's down to 2 1/2 with the Bears at home and the favs. If it goes to 2 or lower I would lay the points and could possibly win both ways but really would like to see the Saints go all the way. I like Deuce since his Philly days and would like to see him win one. Like Brady he leaves 110% on the field.

I think you are referring to Deuce Staley, who used to play for the Eagles but was traded to Pittsburgh and became a fat, cry-baby, sideline cheerleader, that took millions to proclaim injuries while never adding to the production of the Steelers offense. He stood on the sidelines for 2 years with 'injuries' The guy was no workhorse in Pittsburgh... at least not to our standards.

I'd like to see the Colts have a chance at the trophy, but it seems like New England is unstoppable.

The NFL is rigged, anyway, ski. Why are you making bets on fixed games?

Maybe I'm on the "fixed" or right side Peanuts! I doubt whether they are fixed. All those athletes. That's like saying Brees or the Bears quarterback are taking bribes and betting on the games.

I'll take the Pats, not necessarily because I'm a homer but because I think Belichick can devise a strategy to neutralize the Colts strengths and they have the horses to execute the game plan.
